It really isn’t a good feeling if you can’t smile with confidence. Your smile is what makes you complete. But, missing teeth often distorts a smile. There can be various reasons as to why one misses a tooth. It could result from extraction due to a cavity or decay, or a freak accident. These days there are several methods of replacing a missing tooth. From elaborate and intensive ones like dental implants to relatively easier ones like dental bridges. Dentists practicing in Las Vegas feel that dental bridges is a rather inexpensive way to replace your too teeth.

Dental bridges can be permanent or temporary.
Depending on the teeth that need a dental bridge and your oral condition a dentist advises on the dental bridge. Bridges can typically be or two types. The first type requires alteration of the teeth on either side of the replacement tooth. The tooth on either side has to be filed in order to trim it back. A bridge is attached to the two adjacent teeth, which then hold the replacement tooth. The second type of dental bridge is called the Maryland Bridge. Here no alterations are done to the two adjacent teeth. On the contrary the pontic or the replacement tooth is attached with the help of wings which are secured to the rear of the adjacent teeth for support. The bridge often has two or four wings to make sure that the hold is secure.

Given the two procedures, the Maryland dental bridge is not as popular as the former one. These dental bridges are delicate and can break due to pressure. The wings which are often made of metal cast a grey shade on the adjacent teeth making it look kind of dirty. Often the wings are also visible. These days acrylic wings—which are equally good—can be attached in place of metal ones, although, the transparent wings are expensive in comparison to the metal ones. But would you like to compromise with your smile?

Dental bridges vs implants
The dental bridge is not as time consuming as an implant. The whole procedure can often be done by about two appointments with your dentist. The first step is to trim the adjacent teeth to hold your pontic. An impression of your teeth is taken, which is then sent to the laboratory to create the replacement. A temporary bridge is fixed till the permanent one which resembles your natural ones arrives from the laboratory. Often the laboratory takes 7 -8 days to make the teeth. Once that is done the temporary bridge is cast aside and the permanent one is attached either with a bridge or wings. On completing of the procedure your teeth may be sensitive to temperature changes, but the feeling is short-lived and goes away within a week, only to be replaced with a natural look and feel.

Dental bridges have a life span, but can last for a longer period if one maintains the dental hygiene and administers proper oral care. Dentists feel bridges are a good replacement method if one doesn’t want to go in for an elaborate procedure as dental implants.
